The challenge

A major Dutch financial institution needed to bridge the gap between data science experimentation and production-grade AI deployment. Their data scientists were building powerful machine learning models, but deploying them reliably with zero downtime, proper versioning, and regulatory compliance was a bottleneck that delayed time-to-value by months.

The approach

Brought in as Solution Architect to design the services layer for a cloud-native AI model serving platform. Defined the architecture for reliable, zero-downtime model deployment enabling data science teams to push models into production with confidence, proper monitoring, and full auditability required by European financial regulators.

The outcome

The platform transformed how the bank operationalises machine learning removing the deployment bottleneck and enabling data scientists to focus on model quality rather than infrastructure. A repeatable, scalable architecture now serves as the foundation for AI initiatives across the organisation.

The challenge

A multinational corporation in the heating industry was struggling with a legacy monolithic integration layer built under waterfall processes. Every change was slow, risky, and coupled to everything else. The development team had no continuous integration, no automated testing, and no clear architectural boundaries. New feature delivery was unpredictable, and technical debt was accumulating faster than the team could address it.

The approach

Engaged as Team Leader and Integrations Architect with a dual mandate: transform the team's way of working and modernise the architecture simultaneously. Introduced Scrum sprints with proper workload planning, migrated the monolith to a modular microservice architecture, and designed a shared package system for bounded-context code reuse across services.

A multinational fashion e-commerce company needed to capture, process, and expose user interaction analytics across multiple European markets in real-time. The data volumes were staggering: terabytes of behavioural events every day, each needing to be processed fast enough to feed a search engine optimisation layer that directly impacted conversion rates and revenue.

The approach

Designed and built high-throughput backend services to analyse and process user interaction data at scale. Created a WebAPI layer that exposed processed analytics to the search engine, enabling real-time search result optimisation based on actual user behaviour patterns across markets.

The outcome

The services reliably processed terabytes of events daily without degradation feeding the search engine with real-time signals that improved result relevance and directly drove revenue growth across multiple European markets.

The challenge

A global medical device manufacturer had accumulated three decades of security technical debt across their product lines. This wasn't an abstract risk it was actively hurting sales and blocking expansion into the North American market, where healthcare security compliance is non-negotiable. The company needed a complete security transformation, from codebase to infrastructure to customer-facing documentation.

The approach

Engaged as the founding member of a new Product Security team built from scratch. Designed and executed a multi-track programme: static code analysis deployment across two major product lines, hardened operating system creation compliant with CIS Security guidelines, incident response process design, and customer-facing security documentation including a Product Security Whitepaper.

The challenge

One of the world's largest logistics companies needed to modernise their CRM operations both the desktop platform and a new mobile application for field teams. The deployment spanned international markets (Azure cloud) and EU-specific on-premises environments. A separate pain point: importing marketing lists was slow, error-prone, and frequently non-compliant with GDPR.

The approach

Led the CRM customisation and mobile app development workstreams. Built integrations between the CRM, other enterprise systems, and web services. For the GDPR compliance issue, designed a reactive web application that validates marketing lists in real-time and guides users through data correction before import.

The outcome

The challenge

A grocery retailer's point-of-sale application had become a bottleneck at checkout. Slow loading times frustrated cashiers, created queues, and hurt customer satisfaction scores. The legacy architecture couldn't handle the throughput required during peak hours.

The approach

Conducted a full architecture review and re-designed the application from the ground up optimising data access patterns, streamlining the frontend rendering pipeline, and modernising the backend API layer for efficient document exchange between retailers, head office, and suppliers.

The outcome

Loading performance improved by 70%, directly reducing cashier wait times and measurably improving customer satisfaction at checkout. The new architecture also simplified ongoing feature development and reduced maintenance overhead.

The challenge

A PropTech startup needed an independent evaluation of their entire software platform's security posture and simultaneously needed to scale their infrastructure to handle growing user traffic. The platform was built on Python/Django with PostgreSQL on Linux servers, but lacked load balancing, proper network segmentation, and secure remote access.

The approach

Conducted a comprehensive security assessment across the full application and infrastructure stack. Designed and implemented a scalable infrastructure including load balancing for external services, a dedicated media server with distributed file storage, VPN-secured remote access via OpenVPN, and database clustering for high availability.

The outcome

The platform was transformed from a single-point-of-failure architecture to a resilient, scalable, and secure system ready for growth. Security vulnerabilities were identified and resolved, and the infrastructure was designed to handle significantly higher traffic without degradation.

The story

I co-founded a company that designed and manufactured 3D printers for the industrial market. As the sole software engineer at the start, I built every piece of technology the company needed from the 3D slicer that processed models for printing, to the printer firmware modifications, to the cloud monitoring platform, to the internal ERP system. As the company grew, I hired and led a development team of four engineers.

What I built

Why this matters for my clients today

This experience is the reason I can advise across the full technology stack. I've written firmware in C and designed cloud platforms. I've built desktop applications and web ERPs. I've managed a hardware BOM and led a software team. When a founder tells me they're building a connected physical product, I don't need to Google what a PCB is I've soldered them.
